River Oaks Middle School is a specialized alternative learning and behavior-support middle school within the Wake County Public School System dedicated to serving students who require intensive behavioral, social-emotional, and academic interventions. The school provides a structured and supportive environment focused on helping students develop the skills necessary to successfully transition back to their base schools and become productive members of their school communities.

River Oaks Middle School emphasizes restorative practices, relationship-building, and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) as foundational components of student growth and success. Through individualized support, de-escalation strategies, counseling services, and targeted behavioral interventions, staff work collaboratively to address students’ academic and emotional needs while promoting accountability, self-management, and positive decision-making.

The school is committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and student-centered culture where every student is given the opportunity to grow academically, behaviorally, and socially. By partnering with families, community stakeholders, and district support services, River Oaks Middle School strives to empower students with the coping skills, resilience, and confidence needed for long-term success both inside and outside of the classroom.
